im sitting next to jen

well, i was going to write about how awesome ray kurzweil's performance was last night

but i'd rather come up with ideas on why pagnani is not here today

1. he could not get his crack this morning
2. he's parking r.k's car
3. he's playing cat's cradle
4. he really did go to olp last night and it was too intense for him
5. tiny escaped
6. r.k turned him off (meaning pagnani's a robot)
7. we love katamari comes out today
8. something somethign computer something soul
9. he got his nano in the mail

WHY YOU DO ME SO WRONG PAGNANI

16 September 2005

i am... A SENIOR and ted leo is amazing

its a new semester....

and i have to nurture this blog for both pop culture AND adv. tech
i dont think cisco though, but i will say that...
osi models are super happy fun and tcp/ip models are sad and emo

i wish i had taken pop culture and literary intensive at the same time because there are about 7 or 8 books that geoff pulled out in class that i would die to read
right now my list includes...

everything bad is good for you, 8 ball chicks (which im going to read before i get back from michigan tech)
technopoloy
hey nostradamus
generation x
all families are psychotic
eleanor rigby

the last four books are all by douglas coupland

ADVANCED TECH
aside from putting up pagnani's cd's on one of his walls
and him wearing a happiness is not a fish shirt by olp

the "can high tech save your life?" article simply highlights a detail in the dissolution of technology into regular life
its a more precise way of doing things, and surely the numbers reinforce this
the technology used can reduce human error, but we still should not rely on it to be perfect
just like we shouldn't rely on medication to solve all of our health problems, but thats another story

typically, dependencies on anything other than yourself aren't something that should be seen as beneficial at all, and technology in medicine surely helps us like the internet
but it doesn't excuse doctors from learning conventional practices

26 May 2005

erg i missed a day

i missed a date...

yesterday dearest matthew was wearing a black "I run with scissors" shirt that nobody got, and i'm sure he wore matching pants and shoes

today matthew is wearing a brown shirt with white patterns on it, as well as lightly coloured work pants and brown doc martins

surprisingly, i have not seen the cisco lanyard at all this week

he is also still sporting a soul patch

20 May 2005

today dearest matthew is wearing stylish black dress shoes, black slacks with a black belt and a blue pinstriped shirt; no tie but a cisco lanyard around his neck (probably an ID attached to that)

biogradable hands

arg for stresslike whatnot

so I always thought I would love having a car, but after paying for one for a month and having STILL no name of mine on the insurance under liability, and none in sight for like two weeks more at least... I have come to realise how much I would love to crash that car into a building 60 miles and hour and walk away while it's still up in fumes

plus i couldn't get the network thinger running and my dad yelled at me for stealing his cables.

and i'm behind in my A+ stuff but I'll get it all done this weekend and then study next week to take my test before may. and then i'll be on part due

09 April 2005

i hate standardized tests

I left my stuff at school and the networking thing isn't working.

please remember that both MEAPS and ACT's were taken this week so my head is about to explode.

06 April 2005

i got two words fo ya, KEEP IT REAL

boo for not bringing materials to class because MEAPS SUCK

I also left them at home but since I'm on chapter 8 it's not so bad. I'm not sure I entirely remember going through ch.7 but since it was all labs and within the labs I remember how to do everything I guess I'll do fine. I really want to get the first book done by may and since I don't ahve my nifty hasselhoff calender around me I shall assume thats what I had laid out anyway. That way I can take the first part of the test, as I am informed by teh Pagnanius.

I really really need to come up with something for my flash cartoon, becuase I have absolutely nothing planned. How about... that thinger in Donnie Brasco where he's like FAHGETABOUTIT. and stuff. I SHALL MAKE MY OWN GANGSTA GENRE MOVIE!

Speaking of movies I really really relaly want to do a documentary abotu file sharing but andrew is all like... having his panties in a bunch and not letting me. He wants to do a spinoff of Supersize Me and go to Burger King and do King me. Unfortunate for him, I do not wish to provide the funding or teh talent for this documentary. But I reaaaaaaaaally want to do a documentary on file sharing and all the things going on the with Supreme Court.

Man I wish more companies used Firefox... meaning the library.

Urg for headache so ta ta for now.

Regurgitating technology

I have lost this blog 3 times because of the stupid thinger resetting and whatnot.

Basicallye verything has toxic chemicals because it makes stuff cheaper and this is using the darker side of technology becuase people have forgotten that technology is supposed to aide in making a better, not necessarly cheaper, life.

That guy is sweet. I want a job like that.

Probably more later but I dont' want to loose this too.

Violence and Video Games

Video games DON'T inspire people to go off and kill other people or policmen. There might be several murders that can be somewhat attributed to the fact that GTA (and others!) are so ridiculously realistic but it's only a psychological thing. There is no way that these can show you exactly how to steal a car in real life, or shoot a gun from miles away.

Video games are just a quick blame for the real problems society has. Turn on the news and you see (at least what's not censored) beheadings that marines have done. Going back to hte fact that Americans killed an Italian reporter, it's obvious that the military is getting out of control in Iraq. Most people don't even know how long we've been there and the evidence for even being there in the first place is still sketchy. Too bad it's not going to end anytime soon... who bets Syria will be next??? Video games, as well as any other popular entertainment medium are NOT THE PROBLEM. The problem is a lying murderous government and the collapse of the family unit. Even that guy down in Alabama had a broken home...

Censoring video games is also pointless becuase it's basically telling people that you are too stupid to handle this... el fin. I wish America had a european system where there are no ratings and parents actually parented. You need to learn whats right and wrong and how to think for yourself...

In the words of Marilyn Manson in "Bowling for Columbine..."

"The president is bombing some country that most people can't even pronounce... yet I'm teh bad guy because I sing rock songs..."

Technology and Happiness

Most people don't realise that technology does not bring you happiness. They must realise that technology accomodates for things that will help you with happiness and enjoyment. This is why the Amish are apparently more "happy" than the general public. The Amish realise that their technology (technology is DEFINETLY a subjective term) only helps them build what they need to survive, as well as prosper. Today's society has forgotten about that degree of practicality and warped anything remotely technological or computer like into pleasure. For instance (as discussed in class), your Ipod (I hate Ipods, I hate Mac's, I hate anything that has to do with it, especially the people selling the damned thing...) doth not bringth thee happiness. It helps you become happy, or pleased, after it plays the song. Once the Ipod stops working and you don't get your song, it is a source of great frustration.

Also... instead of making life easier, technology frequently just adds more. For example, (and this goes with the fact that IGNORANCE IS BLISS) now that I have internet I am more capable of recieving information. Therefore... I just added more into my life. Without knowing this, I had made my life easier (unless this information was crucial to a certain ambition).

And finally...

SIM sucks.

religion

Why is religion so important to most Americans and so trivial to most intellectuals?
by David Gelernter

Do modern intellectuals actually believe that religious believers are naively deluded? Or could they be missing something themselves? David Gelernter responds to Edge publisher/editor John Brockman's request to futurists to pose "hard-edge" questions that "render visible the deeper meanings of our lives, redefine who and what we are."
Is it just a matter of IQ? (Though I thought intellectuals no longer believed in IQ...) But empirically it can't be an IQ issue, because so many of history's greatest minds based their lives on religion -- from Michaelangelo or Bach to Spinoza or Dante or Kant. Do modern intellectuals actually believe that all such people are naively deluded? Or could they be missing something themselves?

If I had not read Boomeritis, I'm not sure I would have been able to answer this question. Spirituality is just another process in evolution. Aside from silly crusades which aren't even about religion but money, there is a sect in every religion that is "strictly outside of this world". Ken Wilber (more like whoever made up the Spiral of Consciousness) discusses that in order to reach this level, you need to evolve from first tier thinking into integral or second tier thinking to spiritual/ third tier thinking. All of these levels MUST include the predecessing levels that everyone uses throughout their evolution. Although intellectuals may be considered as intellectuals, and may be in fact, extremely intelligent, they are not evolved. Men like Dante and Kant and Michelangelo quite possibly reached third tier thinking, but since they were in a different era of time, it is hard to say.

Most modern intellectuals may feel that the masses are naively deluded because of all the corruption surrounding the church or temple or whatever house of worship but the main reason is they just cannot comprehend something that is beyond their level of consciousness. For instance, in Slaughterhouse Five by Kurt Vonnegut Jr., he discusses an alien breed being able to see the fourth dimension, and thus makes it tangible. This idea is also explored in the movie "Donnie Darko;" there is a infinite amount of parallel (and probably perpendicular) moments of past, present and future and it just another moment in time. Because most people are not able to grasp this concept due to the scholastic teaching of continual time, they are not able to see the problems within the fourth dimension, Vonnegut argues. It is similar to what Wilber discusses in his works, as those who cannot grasp the concept of spirituality do not understand it and thus automatically dismiss it.

nurture the blog!

hi jen ;)

response to kurzweil thang

http://www.kurzweilai.net/meme/frame.html?main=/articles/art0555.html

This article starts off as a helper to make people less stupid. Then it basically talks about how people freak out when something uncertain hits them, and this is just silly because there's always a degree of fundamental uncertainty. Also, people are too infatuated with health. I understand cancer is a very hard thing to go through, and it's hard to see a loved one suffer and all that but you need to live life to the fullest and not have regrets.

The most striking thing to me was the reiteration (sp?) of the representation of information because my communication level is just beyond ridiculously bad.

I wish people in general had more logic because so many are honestly just idiotic in their daily lives, and are just a bunch of space monkeys. But then again, it's always a good laugh.

I'm not pretentious... I'm opinionated!

boring update

Der... ripped apart uber old computer...

not sure if I'm actually going to do anything about it though

Right now I'm just going to concentrate on the whole IT training stuff...

04 February 2005

Welcome to February

No Minty... poop on that. It was in the NY Times which is sweetness.

For completed project... I'm doing the whole... A+ certification thing.

As for now I'm updating a POS computer, er something like that. I know I've taken a whole drawer up for myself. I have pretty much everything needed aside from the motherboard but only because of the expander thangs.

APC + bongos = Sweetness.

I don't care what anyone says, their version of People are People is WAY sweeter than Depeche Mode.
