Regurgitating technology
I have lost this blog 3 times because of the stupid thinger resetting and whatnot.
Basicallye verything has toxic chemicals because it makes stuff cheaper and this is using the darker side of technology becuase people have forgotten that technology is supposed to aide in making a better, not necessarly cheaper, life.
That guy is sweet. I want a job like that.
Probably more later but I dont' want to loose this too.

Violence and Video Games
Video games DON'T inspire people to go off and kill other people or policmen. There might be several murders that can be somewhat attributed to the fact that GTA (and others!) are so ridiculously realistic but it's only a psychological thing. There is no way that these can show you exactly how to steal a car in real life, or shoot a gun from miles away.
Video games are just a quick blame for the real problems society has. Turn on the news and you see (at least what's not censored) beheadings that marines have done. Going back to hte fact that Americans killed an Italian reporter, it's obvious that the military is getting out of control in Iraq. Most people don't even know how long we've been there and the evidence for even being there in the first place is still sketchy. Too bad it's not going to end anytime soon... who bets Syria will be next??? Video games, as well as any other popular entertainment medium are NOT THE PROBLEM. The problem is a lying murderous government and the collapse of the family unit. Even that guy down in Alabama had a broken home...
Censoring video games is also pointless becuase it's basically telling people that you are too stupid to handle this... el fin. I wish America had a european system where there are no ratings and parents actually parented. You need to learn whats right and wrong and how to think for yourself...
In the words of Marilyn Manson in "Bowling for Columbine..."
"The president is bombing some country that most people can't even pronounce... yet I'm teh bad guy because I sing rock songs..."

Technology and Happiness
Most people don't realise that technology does not bring you happiness. They must realise that technology accomodates for things that will help you with happiness and enjoyment. This is why the Amish are apparently more "happy" than the general public. The Amish realise that their technology (technology is DEFINETLY a subjective term) only helps them build what they need to survive, as well as prosper. Today's society has forgotten about that degree of practicality and warped anything remotely technological or computer like into pleasure. For instance (as discussed in class), your Ipod (I hate Ipods, I hate Mac's, I hate anything that has to do with it, especially the people selling the damned thing...) doth not bringth thee happiness. It helps you become happy, or pleased, after it plays the song. Once the Ipod stops working and you don't get your song, it is a source of great frustration.
Also... instead of making life easier, technology frequently just adds more. For example, (and this goes with the fact that IGNORANCE IS BLISS) now that I have internet I am more capable of recieving information. Therefore... I just added more into my life. Without knowing this, I had made my life easier (unless this information was crucial to a certain ambition).
And finally...
SIM sucks.

religion
Why is religion so important to most Americans and so trivial to most intellectuals?
Is it just a matter of IQ? (Though I thought intellectuals no longer believed in IQ...) But empirically it can't be an IQ issue, because so many of history's greatest minds based their lives on religion -- from Michaelangelo or Bach to Spinoza or Dante or Kant. Do modern intellectuals actually believe that all such people are naively deluded? Or could they be missing something themselves?
If I had not read Boomeritis, I'm not sure I would have been able to answer this question. Spirituality is just another process in evolution. Aside from silly crusades which aren't even about religion but money, there is a sect in every religion that is "strictly outside of this world". Ken Wilber (more like whoever made up the Spiral of Consciousness) discusses that in order to reach this level, you need to evolve from first tier thinking into integral or second tier thinking to spiritual/ third tier thinking. All of these levels MUST include the predecessing levels that everyone uses throughout their evolution. Although intellectuals may be considered as intellectuals, and may be in fact, extremely intelligent, they are not evolved. Men like Dante and Kant and Michelangelo quite possibly reached third tier thinking, but since they were in a different era of time, it is hard to say.
Most modern intellectuals may feel that the masses are naively deluded because of all the corruption surrounding the church or temple or whatever house of worship but the main reason is they just cannot comprehend something that is beyond their level of consciousness. For instance, in Slaughterhouse Five by Kurt Vonnegut Jr., he discusses an alien breed being able to see the fourth dimension, and thus makes it tangible. This idea is also explored in the movie "Donnie Darko;" there is a infinite amount of parallel (and probably perpendicular) moments of past, present and future and it just another moment in time. Because most people are not able to grasp this concept due to the scholastic teaching of continual time, they are not able to see the problems within the fourth dimension, Vonnegut argues. It is similar to what Wilber discusses in his works, as those who cannot grasp the concept of spirituality do not understand it and thus automatically dismiss it.
